The Target Corporation is an American retailing company, founded in 1902 and headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is the second-largest discount retailer in the United States. The company is ranked 36th on the Fortune 500 as of 2013, and is a component of the Standard & Poor's 500 index. Target Corporation is consistently ranked as one of the most philanthropic companies in the United States. It ranked No. 22 in Fortune magazine's "World's Most Admired Companies" for 2010, largely in part to the donation efforts of the company as a whole. Forbes has ranked it as the highest cash-giving company in America in percentage of income given.
